Before we became the caretakers of 2 Coots Ranch, these 1,000 acres here in Decaturville, Tennessee were used mostly to grow beans — soybeans, that is. And to be honest, that took a real toll on the land.
When you buy beef from a real ranch, not a factory, you start to see the whole picture. Every animal gives us more than just the famous cuts, and some of the most flavorful steaks are the ones that don’t get much press.
The big problem with most of the “red meat is bad” messaging? They mix processed meat, fast-food meat, feedlot meat, factory-seasoned deli slices, and your grandma’s Sunday roast into one giant stew pot… then blame the beef. But research says otherwise.
Some folks argue about this like it’s religion and politics at Thanksgiving. But here at 2 Coots Ranch, we’re not here to blow smoke — we’re here to feed people real beef the right way. And the truth? Both grass-finished and grain-finished can be ethical, nutrient-dense, and raised regeneratively — if you actually give a darn about how you do it. And yes we do!
You’ve probably noticed it too: the way we get our food is changing, and not always for the better. Supermarket shelves full of mystery meat, “Product of USA” labels that don’t mean a darn thing, and family farms selling out because they can’t keep up with big corporations.
You ever notice how the loudest folks preaching “plant-based only” are usually the same ones who look like they’d lose a wrestling match with a garden hose? Bless their hearts. Listen, I don’t have a “beef” with fruits and veggies — they’ve got their place on the plate. But let’s not forget: your brain is a hungry critter, and it doesn’t run on kale smoothies.
